Dear Family & Friends, It has been a very tough 2 days, my beloved Damara sheep lamb named Blertsi, who was 7 months old on 6 October, who was discovered in March hours after her birth hiding under a bush, born pre-mature and abandoned by her mother. We raised her since birth and she slept in our house and beds for the first 2-3 months of her life, growing strong and healthy and a bundle of joy and delight bouncing around, spending every single moment with us, she also loved sitting/standing on my lap like a dog with her head out the window wherever I drove on the farm. Some of you have met her in person or on photos, and some of you even helped bottle-feed her when she was a baby. Blertsi died on Monday. One of the African Wild Dogs at Harnas escaped from the camp he lives in and mauled her and 5 other sheep grazing in the veld. I was in Windhoek on Monday for a meeting and when I arrived back at Harnas just before sunset, which was always the time I went to visit her every day and took her some snacks, one of the farm workers brought news that Blertsi hadn't come to the sheep fold where she had slept with the other sheep over the past 4 months, and told me about 4 other sheep that were found dead earlier that day and that Blertsi and 3 others were still missing. I went out with Jaco, volunteers and farm worker with flash-lights until 11pm that night and couldn't find her. We only found one of the other lambs Blerti's age mauled and dead. I had to leave for Windhoek ...
